March 1st & 2nd: Will be a Women’s Self Defense Classes hosted by Nye County Sheriff’s Department at the Bob Rudd Community Center from 8:30 to 4:30 both days. These classes are FREE to all women but you must attend both days. For more information call Deputy Danneker at 751-7000
March 1st: Join SAF at the Chili Cook-off for pawsitively daffodils 3 mile walk beginning at 10 AM. Donations will benefit SAF and the American Cancer Society. Kick off the day with a walk with the Paw Patrol and taste good home-made chili. Pre register for the walk at Sniffany’s, Best Western or the day of the walk. First 125 to register will receive a daffodil. Water will be provided.
March 1st & 8th: High Desert Film Festival in partnership with NyeCC will be holding filmmakers workshops. You can learn about lighting, cameras, acting, sound and editing. Registration is required and is now open but limited contact Francie at 727-9970.
March 8th: There will be a benefit walk for Harvey Gonzales at Lake View Executive Golf Course starting at 8 AM. Tickets are $20. For more info call Vern at 702-419-2706
March 7th: Desert View Hospital will host it’s first charity golf tournament at Mt Falls Golf Course to benefit DV Hospital’s Foundation, a newly created non-profit that directly benefits Pahrump residents. Registration is now open for golfers. Individual golfers can register for $80 as a single or teams of four can register for $300. All registrations include green fees, golf cart breakfast and lunch. The DVH Foundation Open Golf Tournament is in scramble format and will kick off with a shotgun start at 8:30 AM. The tournament will also feature several contests and raffle prizes followed by lunch and an awards ceremony. To register call 751-1720
March 15th: Is Pioneer Territory CASA’s Third Annual St Patty’s Day Crab Fest. Put on your feedbag and enjoy some of the best crab you will ever eat and for you that do not like crab they will have chicken also. This is such a fun event and helps the children in our community. The crab fest will be held at Nye CC campus and starts at 6 PM. Tickets are just $45 per person and well worth it. They will also have pick a prize, a 50/50 raffle and a live auction. Sponsorships are available and the deadline is March 7th. To reserve your tickets or become a sponsor call 513-9514. This is such a fun event with great food you just don’t want to miss it. It’s only once a year!
Every Sunday Nye Communities Coalition’s walks starting at 9 AM. The walks are at Mt Falls and begin at the fountain by the Grill Room Restaurant. These weekly walks are referred to as “From Couch to 5K” and will happen every Sunday leading up to the Coalition’s Annual Hope Run/Walk on March 15th.
The Women of the Moose need our help with the Baker to Vegas Run. For the past 29 years these ladies have set up a trailer along the route to provide coffee, water, sodas and cookies. This year they are in need of cash donations to fund this service. To help with this event send your donation to Moose 808, 1100 East Second Street, 89048. They need to raise at least $500 for this event.
China Ranch is giving away firewood. Interested parties just need to go to China Ranch cut the wood themselves and haul it away. Simply bring a saw and a truck or trailer and take all that you need. They have plenty. For details call 760-852-4415.
